[edit]

@Svartava Should this template be able to specify the type of semantic shift like |type= for {{compound}}? The most useful types might be

pejoration - amelioration (see the English entries)
Narrowing - Broadening/Widening

@Kutchkutch: Looks like a good idea. In that case, should the display be simply like "pejoration", "amelioration", etc.? The disadvantage, though, is that these are not as well known and well understood as "semantic shift" (not the issue with narrowing/broadening). Another option is to display "pejorative semantic shift". Svartava (talk) 06:56, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Svartava [Pejoration and amelioration] are not as well known and well understood as "semantic shift"
For that reason, displaying “pejorative semantic shift” is a better option than just “pejoration”. Similarly, would it be better to display “semantic narrowing” rather than just “narrowing”?

@Kutchkutch: OK, makes sense. I'll try to add this along with the categories. Svartava (talk) 07:09, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
