Sister project link

I have used this to put in a sister project to WP like at Tongan. I was wondering if we could modify this or {{also}} to:

1. more clearly distinguish en.wikt links from links to other sister projects (prefixes, logos, other means)
2. reduce typing for some common cases.

This would allow us to eliminate the most valid use of {{wikipedia}}: the provision of a link to a WP disambiguation page where a user could find various proper nouns that we may not have either by policy or because we haven't gotten around to it. DCDuring TALK 14:02, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

This duplicates {{also}} and is worse – needs manual wikilinking of entries and has fewer possible parameters. Considered harmful (by me). Actually, it doesn't quite duplicate the function, since (as I understand it) it has a few capabilities not present in {{also}}. However, someone who understands the coding complexities better would need to say for certain, since I could be wrong. Keep. Defering to RU, Wiktionary:Grease_pit_archive/2008/September#merging_Template:see (also) and Template:xsee (aka xalso). Apparently the overhead of the extra functionality of {{xsee}} would be too much to merge it in with {{also}} on the thousands of pages it is used. --Bequw → ¢ • τ 01:53, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I now see that this template could be used to add piped links or glosses in the see also list. I have an idea that wouldn't add much overhead. Here's a code snippet:

{{#if: {{PAGENAME:{{{1}}}}} | [[{{{1}}}]] | {{{1}}} }}

It checks whether the argument is a valid page name and adds the brackets if it is. I can't be sure however that this wouldn't break anything. Another use for Template:xsee is that it can be used in another location on a page, like here. Wipe 02:39, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

I think that would break the intended uses of the templates because often times people consciously pass in uncreated terms. Your snippet would falsely add brackets in that case. The general hack used is {{wlink}} but it's a bit of an overhead. --Bequw → ¢ • τ 02:19, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
