English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Originally coined for dollhouses and accessories meant to accommodate popular toy figures Barbie, GI Joe and later similarly-scaled figures; that is, to facilitate their "play." As such it is inherently coed and generally taken to imply civilian and, by extension, the civilian agora1, i.e. cross-genre. As this hobby has grown to be a base scale in amateur dioramas, the term no longer presumes an intent of "playability."

Adjective[edit]

playscale (not comparable)

  1. Of 1:6 scale, especially of dolls, dollhouses and dioramas.
