Investigation of kanji readings[edit]

@Benwing2 Hello, this is the beginning of my checking of all the kanji readings in these categories. It's very unfortunate, but this is taking an awfully long time to check through, and so in my more than an hours' work, this is all I could achieve. I will post more about this in the Beer parlour, so please stay tuned for that. We appear to have some systemic problems regarding kanji readings.

  1. あおあかぎ
    1. 藋 Citation at https://dict.v01.jp/letter/id/85cb/, https://www.weblio.jp/content/%E8%97%8B, https://kanji.club/k/%E8%97%8B, and appears to be from KANJIDIC2. Appears to be a "blue" / "green" kind of Bischofia javanica (Bishop wood). Inconclusive.
  2. あおうみがめ:
    1. This source says it's うみがめ, as opposed to specifically あおうみがめ, https://kanji.jitenon.jp/kanjin/6893.html does not corroborate either reading, but https://lamire.jp/420767 says 「アオウミガメ」 is indeed correct. Inconclusive.
    2. 黿 is valid however.
  3. あおがえる:
    1. 黽 looks to be okay. https://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/word/kanji/%E9%BB%BD/, https://www.weblio.jp/content/%E9%BB%BD, https://kanji.jitenon.jp/kanjih/3849.html, https://www.kanjipedia.jp/kanji/0006292400
    2. Conclusion: keep
  4. あおぐろい
    1. 黤: https://www.kanjipedia.jp/kanji/0006896700, https://kanji.club/k/黤 appear to corroborate this, but note that kanjipedia.jp looks like it's just copying over the "meanings" as readings, so the supposed readings may be polluted. This reading is also specified in KANJIDIC2. Appears to be valid, but with the okurigana placement あおぐろ-い, although jitenon does not confirm this reading.
    2. 黭: https://kanji.jitenon.jp/kanjin/6558.html does not corroborate, https://www.weblio.jp/content/%E9%BB%AD states (from KANJIDIC2) あおぐろい. However, the actual reading cannot be あおぐろい in its entirety, so the category "あおぐろい" is not valid.
    3. Conclusion: delete the category "あおぐろい"
  5. あおむきばな
    1. 鼿. This appears to be some KANJIDIC2 innovation, as every listing of its readings is accompanied by every other reading in the KANJIDIC2 data set. Except for https://moji.or.jp/mojikibansearch/info?MJ%E6%96%87%E5%AD%97%E5%9B%B3%E5%BD%A2%E5%90%8D=MJ030047, which does not corroborate the reading. The supposed meaning is "a nose facing upwards", i.e. a compound of 仰向く + 鼻. Theoretically plausible reading, but inconclusive.
  6. あかうま
    1. https://furigana.info/w/%E9%A8%82, https://kanji.jitenon.jp/kanjin/6734.html say that the reading is あか-い. I doubt that あかうま is correct, of course it's another KANJIDIC2-ism. The normal spelling is 赤馬, and it is theoretically possible again that 騂 is an alternative spelling, but this is very apocryphal. The logical explanation is that 騂 can be used in the spelling of 赤馬, as 騂馬, i.e. the あか-い reading is correct. I created 騂い as an entry and removed あかうま as a reading.
    2. Conclusion: delete あかうま
  7. あかくりげ
    1. 驊: 赤栗毛 is the normal spelling. The reading あかくりげ for this specific kanji is a KANJIDIC-ism. On these grounds I believe this spelling is invalid, because besides a single Instagram post made this year, there was no organic source that appeared to use this kanji in Japanese. None on Google Books.
    2. Conclusion: delete the category あかくりげ.
