Exact match

Please ask again if I've read your question wrong, but I think you asked the same question twice. Basically, if you type a word in the box and hit "enter" and it doesn't find an exact match, it'll search for that word. If you hit "Go" and there isn't an exact match, it should take you to a page of templates that you can choose from. From there you may choose one of these pre-made templates or choose "create an entry with that title" in red near the top, for a totally blank page, if you don't like the templates.

Of course, if you see a generic or formulaic definition (such as "in an [adjective] manner" for an adverb), or any other definition that you feel is not quite up to snuff, please don't hesitate to expand or improve it. That is what the wiki is for. Dvortygirl 05:00, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. When I first searched for "house poor" there was no exact match in the wiktionary, so it gave me a search result for matches against both words. Now that there is an exact match, it goes directly to the entry. When it gave me the search result of many matches, I did not see the red link to add it to the wiktionary (first thing at the top.. I apparently am not very observant). So my question was how to add words that don't have an exact match, but also don't take you straight to the add new entry page, instead giving you a search results. I got it now.

ridonculous

In answer to your question, yes, it is legitimate to enter slang, but please realize that we get a lot, lot, lot of made-up and nonsense words. Admins are just people, and volunteers, and we get rather tired of them, which sometimes makes us a bit quick with the trigger finger. We do have a set of standards for testing whether a word exists, having a lot to do with whether it's in common use and who's using it. What probably should have happened to ridonculous if its existence was disputed was for it to go through verification. You can still put it there and supply evidence if you want, and that is what I recommend you do, in this case. Dvortygirl 22:27, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Dhill. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Dhill~enwiktionary that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
