hugs[edit]

I am thinking of you -- I've followed along the last few months and you and Scott are both inspiring and amazing. Many hugs. -- Phoebe 17:43, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have Marti's & my deepest sympathies... I know you two made the best you could of the time you had, and have shown strength and grace through it all that most of us could never match. --Brion 18:34, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

<hugs><tears>

I felt for you when you honoured me in Boston with news of the challenge you were about to face. Then when I saw your name among the probable attendees in Buenos Aires my first thought was that I should take that opportunity to make further enquiries about that challenge. Now I hear that the challenge has reached its bittersweet end. I wondered what to say ... or what someone else might have said better than I. I couldn't find the book with the poem that I first thought of, so I ended up re-reading the final chapter in Miguel de Unamuno's reverential Our Lord Don Quixote, where I found: "Sancho, who did not die, is the heir to your spirit, good hidalgo, and we your faithful followers hope that someday his soul will swell with quixotism, and that old memories of his squire's life will revive in him and flower, and that he will go to your house and try on your armor, and have it fitted to his size and measure by the village blacksmith, and that he will lead Rocinante out of the stable and mount him, and take up your lance, the lance with which you freed the galley slaves and overthrew the Knight of the Mirrors, and that ... he will take the field and return to the life of adventures, transformed from a squire into a knight-errant. And then, my Don Quixote, then at that moment your spirit will be established upon the earth." If you do come to Buenos Aires, I owe you a hug. In any event, in those solitary moments when memories (good and bad) want to overwhelm you, put Zorba's theme in your music player, and follow his solution for embracing your passion.
