What exactly is this consonant in PIE? As far as I know, the standard reconstruction of PIE only uses h1, h2 and h3. So which one is it? —CodeCat 01:21, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

I have no idea what the consonant is, but I'm pretty sure it's an h with a subscript four, because that's what I've seen in all the academic sources I've cited, such as this one. I copied the template from a different article, sorry. I'm not used to all these templates yet, don't know them by memory. But I don't think the actual meaning of the word is free, but rather, that it developed somehow into "free" in Greek and Latin. People is a noun and that seems to be the more common meaning in the other cognates. Notice also that the pronunciation/spelling in Greek and Latin are quite different from the other cognates. I understand that, but it's still important to know what something does before you do it. There are many cases of misuse of templates and categories, apparently because people didn't really know what they were doing. —CodeCat 12:37, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
