Proto-Slavic[edit]

Hi! Thanks for your interest in Common Slavic :-) FYI, linking to reconstructions in Appendix: namespace is done by means of {{proto}} template, like I've done here - this automagically also adds the category xx:Proto-Slavic derivations.

German Pfennig and English penny obviously didn't come from Proto-Slavic, because they belong to Germanic group of Indo-European macrofamily, and their respective forms are reflexes of Common Germanic form not of Common Slavic!

You might also be interested in populating the tables inside Category:Proto-Slavic language. Lots of basic words in all Slavic languages still needs to be created, and etymologies need to be added.. Derksen's "Slavic inherited lexicon" and Vaser/Trubačev's dictionary are a fantastic reference, but one needs to be careful and double-check everyting, because they contain some delicate errors, or are obsolete in some respects, or controversial (people in Leiden have a "thing" on glottalic theory, which we don't use (yet ;-) around here. Cheers! --Ivan Štambuk 20:00, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Firstly I thank you for your welcome ;-) Actually I'm a newbie both to the English wiktionary and to Proto-Slavic. I've never heard of both before some days in this month! But I felt already that there should be some room for the proto-slavic area in wiktionary to be extended. So, I'll try to put words here as many as I can, without major errors, but if you would notice any, please correct them simply or (I hope) tell me how they should be. Thanks again! --Luixxiul 20:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
