[edit]

When adding quotes to ideologically neutral terms, please don't add quotes with an implicit ideological slant. A wickiup is simply a structure where people lived. Yes, some of those people were massacred, but that's not lexically inherent in the term. No one would add quotes about intentional bombings of apartment buildings to apartment, so why add analogous quotes to wickiup?

Aside from the obvious violation of WT:NPOV, you're in danger of converting American Indians from human beings who lived normal lives like everyone else to atrocity symbols whose only role in history was to be massacred- it's precisely because a wickiup was an ordinary home for the Apache that opening fire on one was so egregious. Telling about important things in the wrong place and in the wrong manner can make wrong implications and send wrong messages. Chuck Entz (talk) 20:11, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
