Good job, Carl! Will test it when I need to create new entries. Perhaps, worth adding some descriptions about categories and usage examples. Other things I can think of - suggestions how to enter pinyin and IPA for Chinese. External links may work. Thanks mate. The idea was to outline a very basic template that anyone can work from. I will cover everything else - usage notes, IPA, example sentences, etc, etc - in the "How to Create an Advanced Chinese Entry" soon to come. I mean, not in your user page but some place related to Chinese, categorised with the Chinese language or into an appendix or Wiktionary (e.g. Wiktionary:Chinese entry basic). Thank for making this really good page. I have a little comment: I think that determiner is wrong and that your are missing measure word. Btw it would be very cool if you can move this page to "About Chinese" to make it easier for people to find. Kinamand 10:54, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Hiya. I will cover all the extra stuff like measure words in the advanced guide, which is yet to come. Not sure how to move this page to "About Chinese" - perhaps someone can help me with that? Rules for pinyin entries?

I see. Perhaps in a smaller circle, we could think of minimum requirements for correct pinyin entries until their fate is decided. At least, they should contain tone marks, both trad. and simp. characters or say that the forms are equal, IMO. If a Mandarin entry is created without tone marks and they are correct otherwise, I suggest to move them to entries with tone marks, which is a short task. Yes, something needs to be done very soon. Hundreds of these toneless pinyin entries are created every week and the longer we leave it the more work we are going to have to do to clean up after them. Let's take this to Beer Parlour? ---> Tooironic 04:50, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, please. The topic you know: Why not? I'll back you up on removing them altogether or moving to entries with tones if there are strong objections. Only words that have penetrated English and other languages can be kept but under different headings. --Anatoli 05:09, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
