Transwiki[edit]
Use the {{Copy to Wiktionary}} template on Wikipedia to list it for transwikiing. Do not simply copy stuff here; that creates an unpleasant mess. --Connel MacKenzie 23:22, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- What kind of mess? I changed the article links to point to Wikipedia; I used the edit summary; I added a template to the original article that points to the new Wiktionary article. --ZeroOne 23:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well for one thing, such a copy is not honoring the GFDL. For another, no Wikipedians get to look it up in their log, to see that it has already been moved. For another, it doesn't appear in the proper order for cleanup, here. For another...

- Well for one thing, such a copy is not honoring the GFDL. The article was giving the "This page is over 100 kilobytes long. Please consider splitting it into multiple smaller articles." message, and that's what I did. I could've first separated it into "List of military slang" and then used the transwiki process, but it wouldn't have save any more editor information than it currently does (assuming that was what you meant with not honoring the GFDL).
- For another, no Wikipedians get to look it up in their log, to see that it has already been moved. Ah, I know there are pages like Special:Logs, but I wasn't moving an entire article, just a part of one. The original article had some legitimate encyclopedic content, too, which wasn't, in my opinion, appropriate for moving here, or at least it needed to be saved in Wikipedia, too. You cannot move the cake and keep it too.
- For another, it doesn't appear in the proper order for cleanup, here. That's because I already did the cleanup when copying the article. I redirected all the links.

Actually, the results are identical in more than just the user experience. When you save a page with a piped link (such as [[w:anything|]]), the software automatically converts it to the long version ([[w:anything|anything]]. That's true on both projects. Give it a try. - Well, darn. :D I was wondering why people always use the longer form. :) Your way of doing the cleanup in several parts just led me to believe that you are doing it manually and I thought I'd let you know how to do it in an easier way. --ZeroOne 16:31, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
