Does Wiktionary:Inflection templates provide any value beyond Category:Inflection templates? Rodasmith 23:25, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

String replacement parser function?[edit]

Is there anyone with the ability to create a parser function that takes one parameter and returns that string with the diacritics removed? For example, something like {{#remove_macrons:amīcō}} that would return amico. Barring that, is there a way for templates to perform a garden variety string replacement? The purpose of this request is to make it easier to create wikilinks that ignore the macrons. Right now, we are forced to provide the same parameters twice, with and without macrons, for each word. For verbs, this means providing up to six parameters for one word. I believe that a string replacement function would simplify the templates and be of great benefit to the Wiktionary project. maikxlx (talk) 10:56, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

A parser function exists with various string utilities such as string-replacement, but has not been installed on the Wikimedia projects, and I believe there are no plans to install it: it's considered too computation-intensive in the general case. —RuakhTALK 16:31, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. I figured that was the case. maikxlx (talk) 17:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm RFDing these but I think at least part of those pages could be merged into a single page, perhaps Wiktionary:Language-specific templates or even into Wiktionary:Templates which is mostly empty right now. In any case, the headword-line page seems redundant to Category:Headword-line templates by language. —CodeCat 18:47, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Merge. I will delete the unmaintainable list and link to the category. Michael Z. 2013-02-11 00:09 z
I see – each category listing needs a link to the relevant guideline before the list should be deleted. Michael Z. 2013-02-11 00:13 z
  • They've both been redirected to Wiktionary:Templates, as there's absolutely no useful information on either that isn't already on that page. --ElisaVan (talk) 11:54, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
