From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *auK-(ul-), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *Houk (cold, frost). Cognate to Armenian ոյծ (oyc, cold, frost).[1] Also compare Hittite 𒂊𒅗 (eka, ice), Latvian auksts. Possible relation to Proto-Germanic *jakulaz (ice, glacier) (cf. Old Norse jaki, jǫkull (glacier)) is uncertain.
