[edit]From Spanish albéitar (“farrier, veterinarian”), from Arabic الْبَيْطَار (al-bayṭār, “veterinarian, farrier”), from Ancient Greek ἱππιατρός (hippiatrós); with the ending reinterpreted as the occupational suffix -ari.
