Compound of arbete (“work”) + -s- + köpare (“buyer”). First attested in 1891.[1]
Created as a counter-word towards arbetsgivare (“employer”), compound of arbete (“work”) + -s- + givare (“giver”). Analog with arbetssäljare (“employee”).
