Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish آرپه‌جق (ârpajiq); (Modern Turkish: arpacık), shortened from arpacık (soğanı) - type of a small onion (soğan), literally the size of a small barley (arpacık). From arpa +‎ -cık.
