From Middle Welsh ascurn, ascwrn, from Proto-Celtic *astkornu (compare (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Cornish/Breton askorn), compound of *ast- (bone) (more at ais) and *kornu (horn) (compare Middle Welsh cyrn (horns), Old Irish corn), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥nom (compare Latin cornū, English horn).
