From Ottoman Turkish عسكری (askeri), from Arabic عَسْكَرِيّ (ʕaskariyy), from عَسْكَر (ʕaskar, soldiers, army), from an Iranian language. By surface analysis, asker +‎ -i (nisba suffix).
