Via (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Anglo-Norman bacynet, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French bacinet (little basin), diminutive of bassin. Klein suggests an origin from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French bercelonette, itself a double diminutive of berceau (cradle), with influence from bassin.
