Usage notes[edit]

  • Only used in the sense "to know some information", not in the sense "to know a person, place etc". In the latter case aithne or eòlach is used:
    A bheil fhios agad dè thachair?Do you know what happened?
    A bheil fhios agad air dràibheadh?Do you know how to drive?
    A bheil fhios agad dè an t-òran a sheinneas i?Do you know which song she will sing?
    A bheil fhios agad dè 'n t-ainm a tha air an òran seo?Do you know what is the name of this song?
    An aithne dhut ainm an òrain seo?Do you know the name of this song?
    An aithne dhut an òran seo?Do you know this song?
