From earlier bainat, via a Southern Luzon axis intermediary, possibly Kapampangan, from Proto-Northern-Philippine *bəʀnat (relapse). Compare Ibatan lonat, Ilocano begnat, Pangasinan belnat, Sidetic beynat, Kapampangan benat, and Malay bentan.
