Romanian

Etymology

Probably from the adjective blând (as in boală blândă ("mild illness/disease/condition")) or alternatively from a Slavic *blǫdь, in which case it would be a doublet of bolând, from Hungarian. Cf. Carpathian Rusyn блында (blŷnda), Serbo-Croatian blanda, Bulgarian блънда (blǎnda), which are often thought to derive from Romanian. Compare also the Aromanian cognate blãndã.

Noun

blândă f (plural blânde)

  1. (popular) hives, urticaria, nettle-rash
