Etymology

From Middle English bleaunt, blehand, blihand, from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "ONF." is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF., probably of Germanic origin, from Frankish *blīfald, from *blīo + *faldan, from Proto-Germanic *blīwą + *falþaną.

Compare Old French bliaut, blialt, Medieval Latin blialdus, Middle High German blīant, blīalt. More at English bliaut.
