From Middle Welsh buch, from Proto-Brythonic *bʉx, from Proto-Celtic *boukkā (compare Breton buoc’h, Cornish bugh), from *bāus (ox) (compare Middle Welsh bu, Old Irish ), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷṓws.
