Etymology

Probably from căpețel, either as a feminine form or reformed from its plural, căpețele. Another theory derives it from an early Romanian root *căpeț or căpăț, from Latin capitium, with the diminutive suffix -ea[1][2][3].

Noun

căpețea f (plural căpețele)

  1. the part of the bridle that goes over the horse's head
