campanya
Catalan
Etymology
From camp, or from Old Occitan campanha, from Late Latin campānia, from campāneus, from Latin campus; however the date of first attestation was relatively late, in 1523[1] (it may have been influenced by similar words in other languages; unlike them, however, the Catalan word does not have the sense of "open countryside"). Compare Occitan campanha, French champagne, Spanish campaña, Portuguese campanha, Italian campagna. Doublet of xampany, taken from French.
