Etymology 1

Borrowed from Arabic قَنْجَة (qanja), shortened from Ottoman Turkish قانجه‌باش (kancabaş, ship of a curved prow) from قانجه (kanca, hook) +‎ باش (baş, prow), so called because of its prow being curved like a hook.
