From Persian جیران(jērân), from Middle Mongolian [script needed] (ǰērän, antilope)[1], from Proto-Turkic *yẹgren (yellow, chestnut). Compare Middle Mongolian ᠵᠡᠭᠡᠷᠡ (ǰegere) and modern Mongolian зээр (zeer).
