chtieti
Appearance
Old Czech
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *xъtěti. The present iotation ("cht" > "chc") irregularly appearing everywhere except in the 3rd person plural and the presence of those forms without the thematic "e" are said to have originated from the PIE optative (from which Slavic imperatives also evolved). Compare moci which also uses forms without "e".
