From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *cucumellus, diminutive of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin cucuma (large cooking vessel). Compare Galician cogomelo, Occitan cocomèla and Sardinian cugumeddu.
