From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *cucumellus, diminutive of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin cucuma (“large cooking vessel”). Compare Galician cogomelo, Occitan cocomèla and Sardinian cugumeddu.
