English

Etymology

complaisant +‎ -ly

Pronunciation

Adverb

complaisantly (comparative more complaisantly, superlative most complaisantly)

  1. In a complaisant manner; obligingly.
    • 1956, Anthony Burgess, Time for a Tiger (The Malayan Trilogy), published 1972:
One thing she still would not allow was that horrible erotic act which was a commonplace of American an European films, but she took complaisantly enough now to his other husbandly advances.

Usage notes

As this is much less common, it is liable to be confused in speech with the more common homophone complacently.
