Spanish

Etymology

From contra- +‎ luz.

Noun

contraluz m or f (plural contraluces)

  1. A view from the opposite side of the direction toward which a light source shines.
  2. A photograph taken from such a view.

Usage notes

Both senses are usually masculine, but the first sense may also be feminine, and this is sometimes considered the prescriptively correct gender.
