Etymology

Ultimately from Latin cubitum (elbow) through Old Galician-Portuguese *covetelo, either from Latin cubitālis (via (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Mozarabic qubtal)[1] or alternatively from Latin cubitellum[2]. Cognate with Galician cotobelo. Cf. also the related coto and côvado.
