cough out (third-person singular simple present coughs out, present participle coughing out, simple past and past participle coughed out)

  1. (transitive) To remove by coughing, especially figuratively, to say through coughs.
    He coughed out blood.
    "I'm okay," he coughed out.
  2. (transitive, especially of an ATM) To give (money) to someone.
    Eventually the machine coughed out the money.
