From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle High German temmen, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German -temmen in bitemmen. The modern consonantism is Central and Low German as in Damm (compare (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Low German demmen).
