Akin to Old High German tāen (“to suck”) (Middle High German tīen, dīen (“to suck, suckle”), Old Swedish dæggia, dīa (“to suck”) (Danish die (“to suck”)), Gothic 𐌳𐌰𐌳𐌳𐌾𐌰𐌽 (daddjan, “suckle”), Old English delu (“nipple”), Old English dā (“doe”).
