Etymology

From Old High German donarstag, from Proto-Germanic *Þunras dagaz (literally day of Thor), a calque of Latin dīes Iovis (Thursday, literally day of Jupiter). Cognate with German Donnerstag, Dutch donderdag, English Thursday, Swedish torsdag.
