Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

A derivative of dredh, with -izë suffix (cf. ndrizë). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *dri-(dźiā), from Proto-Indo-European *derǵʰ- (to hold, to be firm). Collective with the suffix -zë. Cognate to Sanskrit दृंहति (dṛ́ṃhati, he makes firm), Proto-Slavic *dьržati (to hold).
