Tocharian A
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From eṣ, from Proto-Tocharian *onṣä (whence also Tocharian B oṃṣ (“above”)), from Proto-Indo-European *énu (“along, after, above”), + the intensifying suffix -k(ä).
Also possibly from Proto-Tocharian *enṣäke. From there, uncertain. Possibly a construct of *e(n)- + a reflex of Proto-Indo-European *segʰ- (“to hold”). Compare Tocharian B eṃṣke.
