Etymology[edit]

A contraction of efalaust ‎(without a doubt) which came from efalaus ‎(indubitable); from efa ‎(of doubt) the genitive of efi ‎(doubt) and -laus ‎(free of, -less), literally meaning "doubtless" or "free of doubt".
