Etymology[edit]
A contraction of efalaust (“without a doubt”) which came from efalaus (“indubitable”); from efa (“of doubt”) the genitive of efi (“doubt”) and -laus (“free of, -less”), literally meaning "doubtless" or "free of doubt".
