Catalan

Etymology

From a substantivation of the feminine of Old Catalan empent (the original past participle of empènyer), from Lua error in Module:etymology at line 170: Old Occitan (pro) is not set as an ancestor of Catalan (ca) in Module:languages/data/2. The ancestor of Catalan is Old Catalan (roa-oca)., from Vulgar Latin *impinctus, as an alternative past participle of Latin impingō (instead of Classical impāctus). Compare Spanish empenta, Italian impinto.
