Albanian

Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *apir, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁epi (on, upon). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὄπιθε (ópithe, behind), ὄπιθεν (ópithen, behind) (alternative form of ὄπισθεν (ópisthen, behind, backwards, in the future)).[1] Alternatively, Orel constructs Proto-Albanian *eupera, a secondary analogical ablaut variant of Proto-Indo-European *upér.[2]
