Usage notes

• Emphatic reflexive pronouns are used for extra emphasis where they are not grammatically required:

  elle l’a vu ― she saw it

  elle l’a vu elle-même ― she saw it herself

  Plus irlandais que les Irlandais eux-mêmes ― "More Irish than the Irish themselves"

• eux-mêmes is used for groups of all males or mixed gender groups, including nouns which are grammatically masculine.
