Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly derived from Proto-Yoruba *ɛ-wʊ́rɛ́, ultimately from Proto-Yoruboid *é-ɓó, likely derived from a Proto-Volta-Niger root, cognate with Igbo éwú, Ebira evu, Urhobo ẹvwé, Idoma ewu, Igala éwó, Edo ẹwe, Ukaan ẹ̀wị́, Yekhee eghuẹ, Ayere éwó, and possibly cognate with Akpes ɛ̀bi, Akpes ɛbují, Akpes ɛbʊ. A possible wider distribution may exist, see Benue-Congo languages Ibibio ebot, Proto-Plateau *-buon (2a), Proto-Plateau *ì-bu (2b), and Proto-Plateau *-bwal (3), and maybe even Baatonum boo.
