From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *spernā, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sper (spear, stick), close to Latin sparus (short spear), Proto-Germanic *speru (whence Old Norse spjǫr).[1]
