Derived from Middle Low German vīentlik, from vient + -lik, merged with Danish fjende and -lig, replacing Old Norse fjándligr. Cognate with Swedish fientlig, Norwegian Bokmål fiendtlig and Norwegian Nynorsk fiendtleg.
