Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Orel proposes a back-formation from fluturoj (to fly; go fast), from a Vulgar Latin *fluctulāre, from Latin fluctuare.[1]

Alternatively, the word could come from Proto-Albanian *flugtur, forming a group of words together with fletë, flatër, flegër, flugë. The word may have been borrowed into Romanian as fluture.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
