From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English forleden, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old English forlǣdan (to mislead, seduce; lead off and away), equivalent to for- +‎ lead. Cognate with Dutch verleiden (to seduce, tempt, entice), German verleiten (entice, mislead), Old Saxon farlēdian.
