From Ottoman Turkish كوكرجين (güvercin, dove), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (göğercin), from Proto-Turkic *gȫkerčin, Proto-Turkic *gȫker- (to turn blue), from *gȫk (blue). See gök (sky). Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (kögürčgǖn, pigeon), Kipchak [script needed] (kögerčin, pigeon).
