Romanian

Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly from Latin clāva, which would have resulted in a hypothetical *ghie or *chie, to which the unexplained suffix -oagă was later added. Other possibilities include a Vulgar Latin root *clāvica.

Noun

ghioagă f (plural ghioage)

  1. club, cudgel, bludgeon, cosh
